
Professor MacMahon is a Consultant Radiologist at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and Mater Private Hospital, and Clinical Professor at University College Dublin. He leads the recently launched Mater AI & Digital Health Centre, the first of its kind in an Irish clinical setting, which brings together clinical teams, data scientists and AI researchers to deploy AI tools in real-world care. He has overseen the introduction of AI systems into clinical radiology, including stroke detection, pulmonary embolus detection, and emergency fracture triage. His department has also explored large-language models for medical report quality assurance. Professor MacMahon has guided governance frameworks to ensure safe and effective use of clinical AI and continues to lead interdisciplinary research to embed digital innovation across acute, diagnostic and ED pathways."
