
Professor Ronan Killeen is a Consultant Radiologist at St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin, and Clinical Professor of Radiology at University College Dublin. Fellowship-trained in Diagnostic Neuroradiology and Molecular Imaging at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, he combines subspecialist expertise in neuroradiology, cancer and dementia imaging with a passion for digital transformation in healthcare.
He is the Chief Examiner for Radiology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, a former Chair of Radiology for St Vincent’s Healthcare Group (2022–2024) and National Delegate to the European Association of Nuclear Medicine. Professor Killeen has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications, attracting over 1,600 citations. He supervised the first PhD undertaken by a radiologist in artificial intelligence and, since 2025, has served on the National Artificial Intelligence Implementation Framework Working Group, which is developing the AI Implementation Framework for the Irish public health sector.
His research focuses on clinical-decision support, guideline implementation and the ethical adoption of AI in patient care. Founder and Chairperson of xWave Technologies, developers of a smart radiology referral platform, he also advises national bodies including HIQA’s MEIR Expert Advisory Group, championing safer, integrated and patient-centred services.
