Dr John Cuddihy graduated from UCC Medical School in 1992 and worked in Acute Medicine and General Practice before completing a Master’s in Public Health and Higher Specialist Training in Public Health Medicine. He has held leadership positions in a regional Public Health Department, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre and as National Clinical Director of Health Protection, before taking up the role of National Director of Public Health in November 2022. He has been honorary secretary of the board of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine (RCPI) and is a fellow of the faculty.
