Danny Sweeney McGinley is an international healthcare leader and health-system strategist with 30 years of experience spanning frontline acute services, large-scale hospital transformation, governance, policy development and patient advocacy. His career began in acute healthcare before progressing into senior leadership roles involving the commissioning and decommissioning of hospitals and the management of complex service transitions. He has worked within the National Health Service across Ireland, the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Gibraltar, Italy and Spain.

Danny is CEO and Co-Founder of the Independent Home Nutrition Advocacy & Patient Care Alliance (IHNAPA), where he has become a formidable advocate for advancing patient-centred care and service integration across Ireland. Known for his determined, intellectually rigorous and solutions-focused approach, he combines strategic analysis with an ability to identify systemic challenges, address fragmented structures and deliver positive cross-cutting change.

His work focuses on raising awareness, strengthening the patient and family-carer voice, identifying gaps across the complete patient journey and supporting the development of safer, more accountable and nationally consistent pathways for people receiving home artificial nutrition. Central to his approach is the belief that patients and families must coproduce the design, governance and evaluation of the services on which they depend.

Danny’s professional perspective is deeply informed by lived experience. He cared for his father for ten years, including three years managing life-sustaining home parenteral nutrition. This experience now shapes his work around patient visibility, digital continuity, clinical governance and the often-unrecognised responsibilities transferred to families when complex care moves from hospital into the home.

Danny is also Chair of Letterkenny University Hospital’s Patients’ Council and contributes to community initiatives across the West and North-West of Ireland. He has lectured students in Ireland and Northern Ireland in anatomy and physiology, care of older people, healthcare governance and policy.

He is currently preparing publication of his book, Beyond the Hospital, an internationally focused examination of integrated care, governance, accountability and patient safety across the journey from acute services into community and home-based care.
